Celebrating Everyday Heritage
In autumn 2024, we embarked on a journey to uncover the hidden working-class histories of Old Market with young people supported by 1625 services, thanks to funding from Historic England’s Everyday Heritage grants scheme.
Trained in research skills, interviewing and oral history, each young person was paired with a community researcher. Equipped with recording gear, the groups immersed themselves in the project, collaborating with John Patchitt (Patch), a Bristol-based sound designer, to craft a soundscape that brings to life the voices and stories of Bristol’s Old Market community, shining a light on often-overlooked local histories.
Through this experience, young people have grown in creativity, skills and confidence.
